Strengthen Your Family

Choosing well before a nikah, and not doing damage inside one. Two different problems.

Two different problems

Marriage and parenting get bundled together as “family”, but people arrive at them from opposite directions. One is a decision you are trying to make well. The other is a relationship you are already inside and trying not to damage.

Before marriage

The questions worth asking before a nikah are rarely the ones families ask. Income, reputation and whether the two of you got along over tea are the easy ones. Harder: how does this person behave when they are wrong? What do they expect of you that they have not said out loud? What happens to your deen inside this marriage — does it grow, or does it get quietly negotiated away?

Meeting with intention, with families involved from the start rather than bolted on at the end. Not open yet.

Inside a marriage

Most marriages that fail do not fail over a single event. They fail over years of small things nobody named. Naming things is unglamorous work, and it is most of what helps.

Where a marriage involves fear, coercion or violence, this is not a communication problem and should not be treated as one. See Find Help.

Raising children

Character is caught more than taught. Children absorb how you speak about people who are not in the room, what you do when you are tired, and whether your prayer is a duty you resent or something you return to. No curriculum competes with that.

Kids Stories

Bedtime stories built around the prophets and around character — patience, honesty, courage — rather than around moral lectures. Not open yet.

On religious rulings. Questions of nikah validity, divorce, custody and inheritance are matters for a qualified scholar who can consider your specific situation, and often for a lawyer as well. Nothing here is a ruling.
