Build Your Future

Ordinary financial questions, taken seriously — starting where people actually are.

The problem most people actually have

Discussion of Islamic finance tends to start at the exotic end — sukuk, murabaha, whether a particular mortgage structure is sound. Most people are nowhere near that. They are trying to work out where the money went, how to save anything at all on an ordinary salary, and what to do about a bank account that quietly pays interest.

Starting at the exotic end is why so much of this content is useless.

Ordinary things that work

Know the number

Most people cannot say what they spend in a month within twenty per cent. Everything else is guesswork until that number is real.

Build the buffer first

Before investing, before anything: enough set aside to survive a broken car or a lost month of work. This is what stops people reaching for haram credit in an emergency.

Deal with riba deliberately

Interest received is not yours to keep or to benefit from. Decide in advance what you will do with it, rather than each time.

Calculate zakat properly

Once a year, on a fixed date, on what you actually hold. Guessing it low is not caution.

“Allah has permitted trade and forbidden interest.”

Qur’an 2:275

Where scholars differ

Conventional mortgages, some pension arrangements, certain insurance products and shares in mixed-revenue companies are all areas where qualified scholars reach different conclusions in good faith. Anyone who tells you these questions are simple is either not informed or not being straight with you.

Where we cover these, we will lay out the reasoning on each side. We will not tell you which scholar to follow.
